The Arts of China After 1620 (Yale University Press Pelican History of Art) ReviewI have recently started reading this book, having 'browsed' through it earlier. I've read the chapters on Painting and on Snuff Bottles thoroughly. It is well written, but the Chinese Painting chapters are very scholarly and 'dense' (not easily absorbed, at least by me), a bit hard going.And a quote in French, without a translation, is a bit stupid. Not everyone is fluent in French (I know I'm not), and it is irritating not to know what this quote says.
Other chapters are much easier to comprehend, and all the material is very informative. There are some minor errors in the Snuff Bottle chapter, but on the whole, it is very good.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the Arts in China in this period, especially to serious students of the subject.The Arts of China After 1620 (Yale University Press Pelican History of Art) Overview
