Muslim Uyghur Students in a Chinese Boarding School: Social Recapitalization as a Response to Ethnic Integration (Emerging Perspectives on Education in China) ReviewThis book provides a glimpse into the lives of Uyghur students who are attending a boarding school somewhere in mainland China. At this boarding school, Uyghurs and Han Chinese are segregated. Thus the school is something of a microcosm of society. We learn how the students exercise agency in this environment - by speaking Uyghur outside of class and maintaining halal dietary practices. One deficit of this book is that the author's key informant was a Han Chinese administrator. If the key informant was a Uyghur boarding school student, a more nuanced perspective might have been obtained. That said, this monograph fill a void of knowledge pertaining to Uyghur experiences in the Chinese education system.Muslim Uyghur Students in a Chinese Boarding School: Social Recapitalization as a Response to Ethnic Integration (Emerging Perspectives on Education in China) Overview
